Fun Facts

Who is your greatest role model and why?

J: Roger Federer

M: Roger Federer, just his manner on the tennis court, what he has done for the sport and still does.

In the following activity, I should be left out. Why?

J: Singing. A big one in the shower, but I prefer to leave that to the professionals :)

M: Art, I definitely can't do anything with painting or art at all 😂

For which movie would you be the perfect lead actor and why?

J: Back to the Future 1/2/3 - I'm sure by now I could easily recite the role of Marty McFly. I love the humor and the story of the films.

M: Jonny English, clumsy but super efficient.

Matthias and Johannes in the interview

1. How did you become aware of Padel?

J: Through a tennis buddy - before that, I hadn't heard of the sport, even though at that time (2014) it was the second largest sport in Spain.

M: My former tennis training partner had already played padel and asked me 4 years ago if I wanted to play a tournament with him. Since I also had time that weekend, I agreed, and the sport immediately captivated me, and from then on I trained 4 times a week.

2. What motivates you to practice your sport?

J: On one hand, of course, the huge fun factor, because padel is spectacular and constantly presents new challenges. On the other hand, the learning curve is incredibly steep, and I can only recommend everyone to try it. (Warning: addictive potential :D).
Finally, the clear goal is to remain Germany's number 1 in the long term.

M: This sport is simply unique. It brings so many facets, a mix of tennis and squash. Since it is always played in doubles, it is also much more social and the atmosphere on the court is much better. That fascinates me the most.

3. What is particularly important for your team sport?

J: Communication! Not only between rallies and side breaks do you discuss tactical things, but communication also plays an important role in padel during the rally (e.g., when the partner is lobbed over and you inform them of the opponent's position(s)).

M: A good chemistry/communication between the partners. Since many balls are played over the middle, you need to know exactly which ball the partner takes and which one you take yourself. In addition, you have to adapt to many different tactics, communicate well repeatedly, and help your partner by informing them who among the opponents is at the back and who is at the front.

4. What is your favorite hobby besides your sport?

J: Tennis and diving.

M: Play Mario Kart.

5. When I'm not training, you can find me...

J: at the gym or at the sports university, as I work there in university sports and am also a lecturer for tennis.

M: on the tennis court or playing Mario Kart with the guys.

Everything about Recovery

1. How important is the topic of "regeneration" to you?

J: The topic plays an enormous role for me. Especially on tournament trips, where we sometimes have to play several matches every day, it is important to get the body back to top level as quickly as possible. For me, the topics of nutrition, sleep, stretching, fascia training, and most recently the Recovery Boots play a very important role. Only in a rested state can we be successful nationally and especially internationally.

M: Very important, as we have a very high workload and train a lot and have many competitions. We need to recover very quickly to be fit again.

2. What does perfect recovery look like for you?

J: Directly after the load:

1) Stretching
2) Ice-cold shower
3) Reboots
4) healthy nutrition

M:
With the Reboots, we have found the perfect regeneration to relax our muscles.

3. When do you like to use your Reboots the most?

J: Before the training/competition, 15min with the Warm-Up (Double) program & after the training, 35-45min with the Intense Flow (A) program.

M: In the evening after training or the competition, on the couch or in bed.

4. Your secret tip for using Reboots: What do you recommend to other athletes for the recovery session with Reboots?

J: The best effect with the Reboots is achieved directly after exertion to accelerate the regeneration process. My tip: 30-40 min Reboots with program B or A. It can be quite intense, but you don't have to go to your pain threshold. I have currently found the optimal strength for myself with program A and level 12/13.

M: I find it best in the evenings. At the moment, I'm doing a program of just under 30 minutes with a pressure level of 10.

5. What do you occupy yourself with while lying in the Reboots?

J: I never go to the tournament without one or more bananas & no sleep without a sleep mask :D

M: I can't lose!
