Carina Schrempf: From running shoes to racing bike!
An injury that means you can no longer play your sport is probably the worst thing in an athlete's life. But despairing about it? That was out of the question for Carina, so she quickly swapped her running shoes for a racing bike and is now mixing it up with the elite on the roads. But what else makes the Austrian sports icon tick? What tips does she have for reaching her maximum performance?
“No matter what you do - do it with passion or not at all.”

1. what sport do you do and how did you get into it?
I have been active in professional road cycling since 2023 and am allowed to race in the highest category of road cycling, the UCI World Tour, with my Belgian team Fenix-Deceuninck. Before that, I lived out my lactate addiction in athletics, where I concentrated on middle-distance running (400m, 800m, 1500m). Due to an Achilles tendon injury, I had to hang up my spikes in 2022 and found a new passion in cycling.
2. What makes your sport special?
What I love about cycling is the combination of enjoyment and "graft". The speed, the adrenaline, the team tactics and the fan culture are what make this sport so fascinating for me.
3. What has been your greatest sporting success to date?
I consider qualifying for the European Championships and World Championships after only a very short time in cycling and, as a result, receiving a World Tour contract, which also means entry into professional sport, to be my greatest success. Winning the national champion's jersey in the elite road cycling race in 2023, which followed ten national championship titles in athletics, is also associated with special emotions.
4. How do you deal with the "hole" after a big competition?
I always recover 2 or 3 days after my competition and don't train straight afterwards. I always like to get some exercise in the following days (stretching, short cardio session, fast run) so that I don't remain inactive after my competition.
5. What is your hobby outside of sport?
Mountain sports (in winter on touring skis and in summer in hiking boots).
6. What motivates you to get up every day?
As my engineering courses take up a lot of time during the week, I think about the other riders who train throughout the week. Since I have less time for training, I have to be active and push myself in the gym or when I'm training.
What job would you do if you weren't an athlete? My actual career aspiration many, many years ago was not to be a professional athlete, but a pastry chef.
What is your hidden talent? I'm not the most talented musician, but you can occasionally find me playing with the music club.
Who is your biggest role model and why? My role models are my family and friends.
When I'm not training, you can find me... in the kitchen ;), with friends or my family.
What movie would you be the perfect lead actor for and why? Probably some kind of action movie - this genre is most closely related to cycling ;)
1. what does the perfect regeneration look like for you?
A hot shower, a good meal and relaxing on the sofa in my Reboots are the best ways to replenish my energy stores.
2. When do you prefer to use your Reboots?
I prefer to use my Reboots Go Lite Pants 2.0 when I'm really tired after a good workout and you can feel in every cell of your body that it has worked well today.
3. How important is the topic of "regeneration" for you?
Both in training and in races, the body is challenged to the maximum at the highest intensities and without a focus on appropriate regeneration, the desired adaptations cannot take place. Regenerative measures "all around" are therefore just as important as training in order to be able to improve.
4. What is your insider tip when using the Reboots?
I usually use the Reboots for a duration of 30-45 minutes - preferably program B at level 8-12 and with a cup of tea next to me.
5. What do you do while you're in the Reboots?
I often analyze the previous training session again and the Reboots session afterwards really completes it :)
6. What does the perfect day look like for you?
The perfect day starts with a big breakfast and is followed by a mixture of intensive intervals, tough climbs and beautiful descents on the bike - together with my training colleagues. A coffee break in between and then a good meal and regeneration.
Even though some professional athletes have already recognized that regeneration is an important factor in achieving their performance goals, many athletes are still not sufficiently enlightened. If you want to find out more about regeneration and improve your performance many times over, you will find lots of useful information in our knowledge base.
