ANNE'S IMPRESSIONS ABOUT RUNNING
To learn more about Anne's experiences and impressions during the race, we asked her a few questions. Below are her answers:
What was the most beautiful but unexpected moment during Challenge Roth, which had nothing to do with the race as such? It could be a smile from one of the onlookers or may be a spectacular view?
"Well, it is probably not unexpected as such but I am always fascinated by the unimaginable warmth that is bestowed upon everybody in Roth. For the first time, I got to know a homestay family for my bike mechanic. They were about 80 years old and welcomed us with such naturalness, open-mindedness towards youth and warmth, that I never experienced anything like it before.”
When, during your race, you have a brief moment for self-reflection, what do you think about? Do you have any special thoughts or mantras that help you to stay focussed?
"During any second of the race, whenever I had a touch of doubt or exhaustion, I told myself: today is the day…. the day for which you have trained for so many years, and you will probably never get this chance again.”
Is there any specific meal or any favourite dish that you indulge in after such a strenuous race? How does your ultimate post-race cheat day look like?
"So, the VIP lounge in Roth is an absolute culinary highlight. I once ate through the entire menu from left to right after the race.”
When you are not contesting the Challenge Roth in world record time, what do you otherwise do in 8 hours, 2 minutes and 38 seconds? How do you spend a relaxed day apart from training and races?
"I am currently enjoying my calm and peaceful life in my adoptive country Lanzarote, surrounded by my loved ones.”
With her new world record at Challenge Roth, Anne Haug has not only highlighted her participation in triathlons, but also shown that hard work, a positive attitude and adequate regeneration can lead to some exceptional performances.
