"No matter what you do - do it with passion or not at all."

An injury that no longer allows one to pursue their sport is probably the worst thing in an athlete's life. But despair over it? That was not an option for Carina, so she quickly swapped running shoes for a racing bike and has since been mixing it up with the elite on the roads. But what makes the Austrian sports ace tick otherwise? What tips does she have to reach one's own performance maximum?

Fun Facts

What job would you pursue if you weren't an athlete? My actual career aspiration many, many years ago was not to be a professional athlete, but a pastry chef.

What is your hidden talent? I may not be the most talented musician, but you can occasionally find me at events with the music club.

Who is your greatest role model and why? My role models are in my family and circle of friends.

When I'm not training, you can find me… in the kitchen ;), with friends or my family.

For which movie would you be the perfect lead actor and why? Probably some action movie - this genre is most closely related to cycling ;)

Carina in the interview

1. What sport do you play and how did you get into it?

Since 2023, I have been active in professional road cycling and am allowed to compete in races with my Belgian team Fenix-Deceuninck in the highest category of road cycling, the UCI WorldTour. Before that, I indulged my lactate addiction in athletics, where I focused on middle-distance running (400m, 800m, 1500m). Due to an Achilles tendon injury, I had to hang up my spikes in 2022 and found a new passion in cycling.

2. What makes your sport special?

What I love about cycling is the combination of enjoyment and "hard work." The speed, the adrenaline, the team tactics, and the fan culture are what make this sport fascinating for me.

3. What has been your greatest sporting achievement so far?

Qualifying for the European Championships and World Championships in cycling after only a very short time and consequently receiving a World Tour contract, which simultaneously means entry into professional sports, I see as the greatest success. The victory of the national champion's jersey in the elite road race in 2023, which followed ten national championship titles in athletics, is also associated with special emotions.

4. How do you deal with the "hole" after a big competition?

I always recover for 2 or 3 days after my competition and do not train immediately afterwards. In the following days, I always want some activity (stretching, short cardio session, quick run) to avoid being inactive after my competition.

5. What is your hobby outside of sports?

Mountain sports (on touring skis in winter and in hiking boots in summer).

6. What motivates you to get up every day?

Since my engineering courses take up a lot of time during the week, I think about the other drivers who train all week long. Since I have less time for training, I need to be active and push myself in the gym or during training.

Everything about Recovery

1. What does perfect regeneration look like for you?

With a hot shower, a good meal, and comfortably on the sofa in the Reboots, I can best recharge my batteries.

2. When do you like to use your Reboots the most?

I prefer to use my Reboots Go Lite Pants 2.0 when, after a good workout, the fatigue really kicks in and you can feel in every cell of your body that it has worked well today.

3. How important is the topic of "regeneration" to you?

Both in training and during races, the body is pushed to its limits at the highest intensities, and without focusing on the appropriate recovery, the desired adaptations cannot occur. Therefore, just as important as the training are the "surrounding" regenerative measures to be able to improve.

4. What is your insider tip for using the Reboots?

I mostly use the Reboots for a duration of 30-45 minutes - preferably Program B at level 8-12 and with a cup of tea next to me.

5. What do you occupy yourself with while you are in the Reboots?

Often, the past training is analyzed again, and with the Reboots unit afterwards, it is then truly completed :)

6. What does the perfect day look like for you?

The optimal day begins with a big breakfast, followed by a mix of intense intervals, crisp climbs, and beautiful descents on the bike - together with training colleagues. In between, a coffee break and then eating well and recovering.
