1. What sport do you play and how did you get into it?
Since 2023, I have been active in professional road cycling and am allowed to compete in races with my Belgian team Fenix-Deceuninck in the highest category of road cycling, the UCI WorldTour. Before that, I indulged my lactate addiction in athletics, where I focused on middle-distance running (400m, 800m, 1500m). Due to an Achilles tendon injury, I had to hang up my spikes in 2022 and found a new passion in cycling.
2. What makes your sport special?
What I love about cycling is the combination of enjoyment and "hard work." The speed, the adrenaline, the team tactics, and the fan culture are what make this sport fascinating for me.
3. What has been your greatest sporting achievement so far?
Qualifying for the European Championships and World Championships in cycling after only a very short time and consequently receiving a World Tour contract, which simultaneously means entry into professional sports, I see as the greatest success. The victory of the national champion's jersey in the elite road race in 2023, which followed ten national championship titles in athletics, is also associated with special emotions.
4. How do you deal with the "hole" after a big competition?
I always recover for 2 or 3 days after my competition and do not train immediately afterwards. In the following days, I always want some activity (stretching, short cardio session, quick run) to avoid being inactive after my competition.
5. What is your hobby outside of sports?
Mountain sports (on touring skis in winter and in hiking boots in summer).
6. What motivates you to get up every day?
Since my engineering courses take up a lot of time during the week, I think about the other drivers who train all week long. Since I have less time for training, I need to be active and push myself in the gym or during training.
